The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Volodymyr Lytvyn deems the Parliament of new convocation has great potential for cooperation with Russia and the CIS countries.
Answering journalists’ questions in Saint Petersburg on Friday, V.Lytvyn noted that despite the role of the parties negatively treating cooperation with the Russian Federation is strengthening, the potential for equal and fruitful Ukrainian-Russian cooperation in the Parliament of new convocation has increased. Thereat, he stressed that today a lot depends on how successful the dialogue in the Verkhovna Rada will be organized, and what sort of the “agenda for country’s development” will be suggested. We should switch from political manifestations, typical of election campaigns, to practical work. He noted also that the issue can be settled only under one condition: tight cooperation at the level of President – Parliament – Government.
V.Lytvyn called the dialogue at the level of leaders and parliaments of the CIS countries another important condition for fruitful development of cooperation. “There should be a clear mutual understanding of interests, problems and tasks of each country, and how they should be implemented in the course of our cooperation,” he said. “I believe that the role of the IPA CIS in this process will be active,” he added.
